The biometric card technology is a result of company’s research and development for more than 10 years.
SmartMetric said that its biometric payments card uses a miniature fingerprint scanner built inside the card to scan a person’s fingerprint for validation. The fingerprint is then matched in less than 0.25 seconds to activate the cards EMV chip.
The thickness of SmartMetric card is same as the thickness of existing credit cards, thus allowing customers to use the biometric payments card in existing credit card readers and ATMs.
It comes with cortex processor, memory, power management system and company’s own super slim rechargeable battery.
SmartMetric president & CEO Chaya Hendrick said: "We have layered biometrics security on top of the existing EMV chip card technology making our card fully adaptive to the existing payments card reader and transaction infrastructure."
The card must be used prior to it being inserted into an ATM or in-store card reader as it works only after having the fingerprint validation of the card user.
SmartMetic is currently in talks with major card issuing banks across Europe and the US regarding adoption of its biometric card technology.
