Net interest income for the first quarter of 2011 was EUR7.51bn, compared to EUR7.12b in the corresponding quarter of 2010.
In the first quarter of 2011, the bank posted a gross income of EUR10.85bn, compared to $10.26bn in the same period last year.
Latin America contributed 43% of profit (Brazil 25%); Continental Europe 36% (Spain 13%); the UK 17% and Sovereign (US) 4%, for the first quarter o f 2011.
Banco Santander chairman Emilio Botin said that these results highlight the enormous benefits of geographic diversification.
"Revenues are growing at a good pace throughout the Group and in Spain reversed the downward trend of recent quarters. I am convinced that this change will continue in the coming months," Botin said.
