Mozilla has released an update to Firefox 3.5 to fix the security vulnerability that allowed hackers to execute the malicious code remotely.

The new version, Firefox 3.5.1, is now available for Windows, Mac, and Linux users as a free download from its website, the company said.

The Firefox 3.5.1, addresses a Just-in-Time (JIT) JavaScript compiler flaw in version 3.5 of the browser. Earlier, the company has recognised the vulnerability and confirmed that it is working on a fix for this flaw. It also posted instructions to disable the JIT component through “about:config” in the browser’s location bar.

The company stated on its blog: “We strongly recommend that all Firefox 3.5 users upgrade to this latest release. If you already have Firefox 3.5, you will receive an automated update notification within 24 to 48 hours.”

The new update can also be applied manually by selecting “Check for Updates…” from the help menu, the company said.

The users should have to re-enable the JIT component in case they have disabled it, based on the suggestions from Mozilla earlier. The latest update also covers an issue that was making Firefox take a long time to load on some Windows systems.
