Mitsubishi UFJ Nicos, a credit card issuer and a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corp, has lost key credit card information of about 197,000 customers – reported The Japan Times. Only recently, Alico Japan, a unit of AIG, has cautioned card customers about the possibility of fraud after conceding that customer data had been leaked in its place. Now, this incident is expected to trigger calls for more secure information management.

However, the company has said that its internal investigation has showed that it might have discarded the data compiled between 1993 and 2001 mistakenly. It has added that the lost data do not include customers’ personal identification numbers.

The company said: Since the data were stored in a film that requires a special reading device to use, it is unlikely they will be leaked and no inquiries about the matter have been received. We will actively work to reinforce information management and implement preventive measures for erroneous disposal, reported the newspaper.
