Following the trail of their strategic partnership formed in 2007 for the management of Salik and RTA parking fines, Emirates NBD and the Road and Transport Authority of Dubai (RTA) are teaming up once again to circulate the Unified Electronic Fare Card, or “Nol” Cards, a new technology in transport cards.
Reportedly, the agreement was signed between Jamal Bin Ghalaita, group deputy CEO, Emirates NBD and Abdulla Al Madani, CEO of RTA’s Corporate Technical Support Services Sector, in the presence of senior directors and officials.
Mr. Madani said: The revolutionary Nol Chip Cards are unified automated fare collection cards which will be the only method accepted for paying transportation fares throughout Dubai. Coming in 4 different classifications, Red, Blue, Silver and Gold tickets, Nol Cards will provide commuters with a heightened sense of simplicity and convenience as the fare for public transport is automatically deducted on a “pay as you go” basis”, and we are pleased with the cooperation with Emirates NBD.”
Starting 9th of September, 2009, the Nol Cards can be purchased and recharged at Emirates NBD branches and are for all consumers, not just bank account holders. The top up service will also eventually be obtainable through electronic banking channels such as ATMs, CDMs, Internet banking and via SMS for additional convenience, he added.
Mr. Ghalaita said: “Nol Cards will help increase the smooth flow of public transportation. Public transport users will not endure the hassle of sorting through change anymore; instead they can recharge their cards by using one of the many channels we are offering. Emirates NBD is an avid supporter of all governmental organizations and the banking group is dedicated to being involved in ongoing projects that promote greater benefits for the general public.”
