The lender said that Hammond will serve as the managing director of Credit Suisse’s industrial group and assume the new position in Credit Suisse in October, as reported by the Financial Times.
To be initially based in London, Hammond will report to Mark Echlin and Andy Lipsky, the global co-heads, the bank said.
Serving as global head of metals and mining at Morgan Stanley, Hammond had been at the US bank since 1997.
Hammond was involved in advising Barrick Gold, one of the world’s largest gold miners, and had worked on the $7.8bn acquisition of copper miner Equinox Minerals in 2011, as well as on large equity raisings for Barrick, Alcoa, AngloGold and US Steel, the firm said.
