The app, built on the Unity gaming platform, will be made available to everyone who has pre-registered their interest via the bank’s website.

It will initially offer services only through iPhone and iPad apps. The app will be launched on Android in the coming months.

Atom, which is partly supported by Spanish bank BBVA, will also provide secured lending to SME businesses, available via several specialist business intermediaries.

The bank said it will unveil a further range of products and continuous app enhancements, with a phased roll-out of services throughout 2016.

By the end of this year, customers will be allowed to access fixed term savings, current accounts, overdrafts, debit and credit cards, instant access savings and residential mortgages.

Atom Bank CEO Mark Mullen said: "Atom aims to offer a genuine alternative to the insidious and self-interested banks that dominate the UK banking landscape.

"Our approach will be to constantly evolve and extend our offering, with monthly updates to our app and a dedication to providing better value, greater transparency and a much more innovative banking experience."

Atom, which was launched in April 2014, employs 160 people. Last November, the bank sold a 29.5 % stake to BBVA for £45m.
