A fee of $8 will be charged for consumers who send up to $1000 money from the US to Mexico, Central America, Dominican Republic and most of South America excluding Suriname, Guyana and French Guiana, through the firm’s agent locations, or online.

Western Union North America senior vice president and general manager Victoria Lopez-Negrete said the company will continue to enhance its consumer value proposition across key markets.

"With this new offer, we have a unique and compelling value proposition – competitive pricing and the convenience of a multi-channel shopping experience," Lopez-Negrete added.

The company together with its Vigo, Orlandi Valuta, Pago Facil and Western Union Business Solutions branded payment services, enables consumers and businesses to send and receive money globally.

In 2011, around 226 million consumer-to-consumer transactions worldwide were completed, moving $81bn of principal between consumers, and 425 million business payments.
