Around 125 Shell stations in Austria will be deployed with the system by the end of this year.

The new system, which integrates cash withdrawal, POS functions and security, will make cash handling much easier and more secure for cashiers in the service stations, as they will no longer have direct access to the cash in the POS system.

Shell service station network in Austria head N Iwan said that refueling stops are necessary regularly, and customers expect to get other necessities of everyday life done the same time.

"The new system delivers maximum protection for our service station operators and their employees against robberies," Iwan added.

Wincor Nixdorf has developed the Integrated Cash Management (ICM) system, which performs automated deposits and dispensing as well as banknote and coin recycling.

It also counts the cash, validates its authenticity and deposits and stores it securely, while ensuring that money is credited to the service station operator’s account in real time.
