Layfield will be responsible for driving the bank’s business and brand across Africa.
Previously, she held senior management roles in the bank as chief operating officer for wholesale banking and as group head, global corporates.
Layfield will succeed Mike Hart, who becomes vice chairman for the bank?s operations in Africa. Hart will continue to work very closely with the bank’s franchise in Africa in his new non-executive role.
Standard Chartered CEO, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Americas V Shankar said that this is a hugely exciting time for the bank’s fast growing business in Africa.
"Diana and Mike will ensure we are well placed to take advantage of the many opportunities we see, including from deepening economic and trade relationships with Asia," Shankar said.
