SumUp card reader will process major credit and debit cards, including MasterCard and Visa in Russia. The service will soon extend to American Express cards.

The company has entered into a deal with Svyaznoy Group, a retail and financial conglomerate in Russia, under which the latter will provide SumUp’s service in its 3,000 electronics stores as well as use the service to accept card payments from its customers.

The service is also available on SumUp’s website and its support team in Moscow provides assistance to users in their native language.

SumUp CEO Daniel Klein said that with more than six million small businesses and extremely fast growing smartphone usage, the company sees a need for an easy and secure solution for card payment acceptance in the Russian market.

"We very much look forward to bringing the convenience of our technology and the peace-of-mind that comes with processing card payments over our secure network to Russian businesses," Klein said.
