In this newly created role, Saunders will drive growth in HSBC’s structuring and financing of high-value transactions throughout the supply chain, focusing on both domestic and cross-border commodity flows.

Saunders will report locally to Andrew Skinner, head of trade and supply chain, HSBC Australia, and
functionally to the regional commodity and structured trade finance hub in Singapore.

Saunders has over 15 years of experience in banking and commodities. Prior to joining HSBC, he held a senior relationship management role in commodities for BNP Paribas Fortis in London and before that was part of the commodities: energy team at Fortis Bank, as well as holding other roles in MeesPierson.

HSBC Bank Australia head of trade and supply chain Andrew Skinner said HSBC’s expanded focus on commodities and structured trade finance should increase the bank’s penetration further.

"The appointment of John Saunders to lead HSBC’s commodities and structured trade business in Australia, combined with HSBC’s on-the-ground global trade advantage, put the bank in a unique position to grow our business and market share by supporting Australian businesses as they ride the Australian commodities boom," Skinner said.
