The service, which has been launched in partnership with two French mobile operators in Strasbourg, shows Oberthur Technologies’ capability to provide end-to-end interoperability of its NFC offer with TSM and SIM cards from other suppliers.

By subscribing to the new NFC payment service, the bank’s customers can pay using their mobile phones at any point-of-sales outfitted with contactless terminals across the country.

In order to pave the way for smooth progress of contactless payment, the lender already offers dual payment cards allowing customers to execute payment even without an NFC-enabled handset.

Société Générale payments & cash management head Philippe Marquetty said that after Strasbourg, the company is planning to introduce the NFC payment service across France in collaboration with Oberthur Technologies.

Founded in 1984, Oberthur Technologies provides security and identification solutions and services based on smart card technologies, has staff strength of more than 6 000 people and serves clients in 140 nations.
