Following integration of Spanish saving banks BBK, Kutxa, Caja Vital and CajaSur, Kutxabank felt the need to integrate its technology platform, which will also help drive its business strategy.
IBM will modernize and develop the bank´s IT infrastructure and will provide branch offices and ATM maintenance, which will offer better cost efficiencies and business flexibility to adapt to market changes.
Kutxabank president Mario Fernández said that the agreement will position the bank "at the cutting edge of technology at service of the increasing clients and market demands and will generate wealth and new investment in Euskadi, essentially in Gipuzkoa."
Based on the terms of the strategic agreement, IBM will build a new firm and two new technology management centers in the Basque Country region in Spain, which will offer IT services to Kutxabank as well as other IBM´s Spain clients.
The new IBM company will have a workforce of approximately 300 professionals, of which 190 will come from Kutxabank IT services providers.
