Effective from 29 August 2013, Schroders will assume all the sub-advisory responsibilities of the fund replacing Tradewinds Global Investors.

The fund will be rebranded as Sun Life Schroder Emerging Markets Fund, although its investment objectives will remain same, including seeking capital appreciation by investing primarily in equity securities of companies with a connection to emerging markets.

Schroders Canadian distribution head Ross Servick said that the company is happy to offer global perspective and expertise to the management of the Sun Life Schroder Emerging Markets Fund, which create long-term value for Canadian investors.

In order to reflect the new investment opportunities provided by Schroders, the company will modify the investment strategies for the fund such as the ability to invest in certain other investment funds.

Further, the company is mulling to incorporate a transition plan, which will be beneficial in rebalancing the portfolio to securities and asset classes to reflect the new investment strategies.

Sun Life operates in Canada, the US, the UK, Ireland, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Indonesia, India, China, Australia, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia and Bermuda and had $591bn total assets under management as of 30 June 2013.
