Customers with mobile phones can activate the service through the bank’s website. According to the bank, once enrolled, customers can text commands to a designated short code to get a real-time account balance report or receive an update on the most recent transactions on an account. Customers may also sign up to receive a weekly balance alert, sent each Friday.

David Becker, president and CEO of First Internet Bank, said: “With text message banking, First IB fulfills its promise to empower its customers to manage their money more easily and make smarter financial choices.

“In a matter of seconds, our customer can check her balance and know whether she has enough funds to make a debit card purchase or withdraw cash at an ATM. The speed and ease of use of text message banking will make our customers’ everyday financial decisions a little easier.”
