The induction of Tucker expands the board to 12 directors, 10 of whom are independent, the company said.

Tucker will serve as a member of each of the firm’s audit, risk, compensation and corporate governance and nominating committees.

The Goldman Sachs Group chairman and CEO Lloyd Blankfein said that Mark had nearly three decades of experience in the insurance and banking sectors across Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.

Prior to accepting the current role, he worked as a group chief executive and president of AIA Group, a pan-Asian life insurance company.

From 2005 to 2009, he served as group chief executive of Prudential , and held numerous positions during the period 1986-2003, including as founder and chief executive of Prudential Corporation Asia and as an executive director of Prudential.
