Stripe, an Irish-American software-as-a-service firm, has extended its payments product Stripe Terminal to Ireland, France, Germany, the UK, and the Netherlands.
According to the company, Terminal will extend its payments infrastructure to the physical world, as European consumers return to in-person shopping, post-pandemic restrictions.
Online and offline businesses such as Shopify, Taxi.de and Indy Cinema Group have already started using Stripe Terminal.
The businesses are enabled to build their own in-person checkout using Terminal’s developer tools, pre-certified card readers, and cloud-based hardware.
Stripe EMEA business lead Matt Henderson said: “Over the last decade it’s become much easier to accept in-person or online payments. But as soon as you want to do both, it would get complex and challenging.
“The expansion of Stripe Terminal means businesses in Europe around the world can easily unify their in-person and online payments experiences.”
Before Stripe Terminal, online businesses in Europe were required to use an entirely different payments system to accept in-person payments.
The company claims that its Terminal eliminates the complexity, and facilitates a simple omnichannel payments offering, and now across Europe’s economies.
Additionally, its Stripe Terminal and Stripe Connect software platforms enable businesses to take in-person payments along with online payments.
The platforms are capable of managing orders for Terminal hardware on behalf of their users, while Stripe carries out the shipping and logistics activities.
Taxi.de, which runs taxis across 64 German cities, accepts in-car card payments and allows its riders to pay online, by leveraging the combination of Stripe Terminal and Stripe Connect.
Also, UK’s Indy Cinema Group has unified its online ticket sales and real-world popcorn sales through a SaaS platform, using platform.
Stripe said that its bundle of flexible SDKs and APIs helps businesses create a custom checkout experience using web/mobile apps, and supports global payments.
Furthermore, its pre-certified card readers are compatible with Stripe Terminal’s APIs and SDKs and are ready for EMV contact, EMV contactless and mobile wallets.
Last month, Stripe entered into a strategic partnership with Klarna to enable retailers to activate Klarna as the preferred payment method in their checkout.
