The collaboration will enable SMBC to use Scotiabank Inverlat’s domestic network in providing local currency payment and other transaction banking services to its customers in Mexico.

The SMBC financial institution had been offering its services to clients through its Mexico City Representative Office established in 2009.

Scotiabank Inverlat, founded in 1934, is a subsidiary of The Bank of Nova Scotia with total assets worth US$12.5bn as of 30 June 2011 and a domestic network of over 700 branches and 1,500 ATMs.

The firm offers a broad range of financial services through its retail, commercial, and corporate banking groups.
